After weeks of speculation about its design, Google has finally revealed the first images of the new Pixel 11 Pro. The new teaser on the Google Store confirms the phone's title, reveals a gold colour and introduces a new lighting feature, known as Pixel Glow. The complete announcement will be made at the Made by Google event on Aug. 12, where Google will also be introducing new AI capabilities with the Gemini name.
This teaser is a first for Google, as it is a direct teaser from Google, and it is the clearest teaser of the company's next flagship phone to date.
What the Pixel 11 Pro teaser shows.
The teaser keeps everything simple. Google's landing page reads: "The next generation. Google Pixel 11. August 12. It's accompanied by a brief video in which it looks like the Pixel 11 Pro now has a new gold color.
The design remains much the same as recent Pixel iterations, retaining the same horizontal camera bar. One thing that is interesting is that there's a Pixel Glow small light, which was earlier rumoured to be on the camera bar, and now appears to be embedded in the same space as the camera flash.
In the teaser, there is a circular light sequence of multiple colors. Google hasn't revealed what it does, so it is yet unclear if Pixel Glow will serve as a notification light, mark Gemini usage, or be used for other system uses.
The teaser also refers to Gemini Intelligence, which is Google's AI platform, indicating that a significant part of Google's AI will be showcased at the event scheduled for August. But the company hasn't announced anything about new features of Gemini.
But why is the Pixel 11 Pro important?
The teaser doesn't provide much detail about the hardware, but it does confirm that Google is introducing at least one new visual element to give the Pixel 11 Pro a competitive edge in the crowded flagship market.
Most modern cellphones have comparable rear designs. The Pixel Glow might provide a stronger sense of identity for Pixel devices and be useful in various other ways if Google integrates the feature with notifications, charging status, or AI interactions. At this time, these options have not been confirmed.
The teaser also helps to drive the point home that Google's attention this year isn't just going into hardware. Multiple times, the mention of Gemini Intelligence indicates that software and AI experiences will play a big role in the Pixel 11 lineup.
Google will unveil the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, Pixel 11 Pro Fold, and more Pixel devices and accessories at the Made by Google event on Aug. 12. Further details on Pixel Glow features, presentation of Gemini features, cameras, pricing, and availability will be received during the presentation.
At this time, the teaser provides a few key details: the Pixel 11 Pro is official, it'll be available in gold, and Pixel Glow exists. All the rest will have to wait until Google's full announcement next month.
